Philadelphia wins thanks to a last-minute comeback led by Kirk Cousins.

After a last-minute touchdown drive spearheaded by Kirk Cousins, the Atlanta Falcons shocked the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday by winning 22–21 after going behind.

With one minute and 39 seconds remaining and no timeouts, the Falcons were down 18–15 and beginning a drive from their own 30-yard line. However, in six plays and 65 seconds, Cousins expertly led the team down the field. With less than 40 seconds remaining, he found Drake London for the game-winning touchdown.

On their last drive, quarterback Jalen Hurts was intercepted, so the Eagles were unable to respond.

“Sometimes the easiest ones are the hardest ones,” London remarked of the game-winning play after it was broadcast on ESPN. “Once I made my move and I was open, just grab the ball and secure it.”

There was an intense finale following a nostalgic game. Prior to Atlanta’s final touchdown drive, both teams’ rushing attacks were more relaxed. Philadelphia amassed 186 yards of total offense on 37 carries, while the Falcons managed just 152 yards on 28 rush attempts.

The Eagles had control of the clock and had a chance to seal the game late in the fourth quarter.

Saquon Barkley, the running back, had a third-and-three situation from the Atlanta 10-yard line. Barkley misplayed a pass that was most likely going to result in a first down. If he had made the conversion, Philadelphia could have knelt with the ball to run out the clock. The Eagles chose to go for a field goal on fourth down instead, which allowed them to have the lead drive.

After the game, Barkley admitted to reporters, “I dropped the ball.”

Cousins finished the game completing 20 of 29 passes for 241 yards and two scores, a marked improvement from his Falcons debut in Week 1. Hurts was 23-of-30 for 183 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 85 yards and a score.

The Falcons’ signal-caller said despite the win, he’s “got to be better.”

“I didn’t feel like I was sharp enough today, not accurate enough,” Cousins said on ESPN. “But that last drive hopefully will give us a boost going into next week. We can build on that.”

Philadelphia fell to 1-1 with the loss and will face the New Orleans Saints and their potent offense in Week 3.

Atlanta improved to 1-1 with the victory. The Falcons will next play the Kansas City Chiefs on “Sunday Night Football.”

Falcons had almost no chance to win. And they did.
