In reaction to Navalny’s passing, the US says that Russia will face severe sanctions.

The White House will announce a new “major sanctions” package on Friday “to hold Russia accountable” for the death of Alexei Navalny, the longtime Russian opposition politician and critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, White House national security spokesman John Kirby said. More information about the US move was provided later on Tuesday by national security adviser Jake Sullivan, who noted that the administration is timing them to coincide with the two-year anniversary of the conflict’s beginning.
