According to the military, the 98th Division of the IDF, an elite group of paratrooper and commando units, oversaw the ground operation in Lebanon during the night.
The 7th Armored Brigade joined the division’s Commando and Paratrooper brigades after weeks of preparation.
The 98th Division previously operated in the Gaza Strip for months amid the war against Hamas.The Israeli military calls on Lebanese civilians in southern Lebanon to not drive vehicles in areas south of the Litani River until further notice.
The IDF’s Arabic-language spokesman, Col. Avichay Adraee, says on X that “there is intense fighting in southern Lebanon, where Hezbollah operatives are using the civilian environment and you as a human shield to organize to carry out attacks.”
