Harris speaks to supporters in Washington as voters go to the polls

The vice president, Kamala Harris, is making a surprise appearance the Democrat party’s Washington DC headquarters, and she is meeting supporters and staff.
She is crashing a phone-banking session, where volunteers phone people across the country to ensure they have voted, or to encourage them to do so.
Speaking to one voter, the Democrat candidate for president thanked them for voting, saying it’s “so important that everybody participates”.
