At least four persons were taken into custody after police searched more than 20 properties in southwest Germany. The case deals with the trafficking of individuals from the Caucasus region into illegal labor for low pay.
The federal police dawn raids on Tuesday were concentrated on Mannheim, which is located south of Frankfurt.
According to a spokesperson, federal police in southwest Germany searched homes early on Tuesday in the cities of Mannheim, Karlsruhe, and Worms as they looked into a possible human trafficking operation.
Four hundred officers in all, including members of central customs, the public prosecutor’s office, and federal police, were searching twenty-four properties.
At least four people had been taken into custody as a result of the operation, according to the police, but more arrest warrants were being sought for a group of seven people, including men and women.
