German police have shut down an “extremely large” child pornography site with hundreds of thousands of users. Six people connected to the network were arrested.
A dark child pornography platform with hundreds of thousands of users has been taken offline, the Interior Minister of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Herbert Reul, said on Tuesday.
Investigators said six men, aged between 43 and 69 and suspected of being “key people in the dark web platform”, were arrested and taken into custody. Chief investigator Kai-Arne Gailer said at a press conference that the operation was a “severe blow” against broadcasters of material that would have “a lasting effect on the scene”.
Gailer said the website was used “solely” to share images of child abuse.
Authorities did not give an estimate of the number of victims involved, but said the abusive material shared on the site was only about women.
