Flights to Haiti Canceled After Spirit Airlines Plane Hit by Suspected Gunfire

U.S. airlines have canceled flights to Haiti after a Spirit Airlines plane appeared to be hit by gunfire while attempting to land in the country, which is currently embroiled in political unrest.
Spirit said the plane, which departed from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Monday, was diverted to the Dominican Republic, where an inspection found evidence consistent with gunfire damage to the aircraft. One flight attendant reported a minor injury, the airline said. No other injuries were reported. Upon the plane’s arrival, an inspection “revealed damage to the aircraft consistent with gunfire,” the representative said. One flight attendant suffered minor injuries and is being treated by medical personnel.
No passengers aboard the plane were harmed, the airline said.
