Far-right activist Tommy Robinson has been jailed for 18 months after making repeated false allegations about a Syrian refugee schoolboy.

The 41-year-old, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, admitted at Woolwich Crown Court that he breached an order issued after he was successfully sued for defamation in 2021.

Those found in contempt of court can be jailed for up to two years, fined, or both.

A 2021 Supreme Court order had prevented Robinson from repeating defamatory allegations against Jamal Hijaz, who had successfully sued him for defamation.

The attorney general issued two contempt complaints against Robinson earlier this year, saying he “knowingly” violated the order on multiple occasions.
