EU includes Iran Air in sanctions over missile transfer to Russia
The European Union agreed on Monday to impose sanctions on seven individuals and seven organizations, including Iran Air, over their links to Iran’s transfers of ballistic missiles to Russia.
The list also includes Saha Airlines and Mahan Air, as well as Iran’s Deputy Defense Minister Seyed Hamzeh Ghalandari.
Last month, the United States, citing intelligence it shared with allies, said Russia had received ballistic missiles from Iran for its war in Ukraine.
Washington immediately imposed sanctions on ships and companies it accuses of being involved in arms transfers.
Following the US accusations, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said his government had not transferred weapons to Russia since taking office in August. Prominent officers of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the directors-general of Iran’s Aviation Industry Industry and Aerospace Industry Organization are also targeted for sanctions under the decision of the EU.
Sanctions include asset freezes and travel bans within the European Union.
