Erdogan is dealt a blow by the Turkish opposition’s victories in Istanbul and Ankara.
With a historic victory, Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu astounds Erdogan.
With most of the votes counted, Imamoglu led by 10 percentage points in the mayoral race in Istanbul, Turkey’s largest city, while his Republican People’s Party (CHP) retained Ankara and gained 15 other mayoral seats in cities nationwide. This was also the first time since Mr Erdogan came to power 21 years ago that his party was defeated across the country at the ballot box.
