Due to an alleged coup plot, the Congo sentences three Americans to death

Three Americans are accused by the Congo of plotting a coup.
In May, six foreign nationals were sentenced to death for supposedly trying to stage a coup.
“The court imposes the harshest punishment: the death penalty for criminal association, the death penalty for attack, and the death penalty for terrorism,” stated court president Freddy Ehume.
The little-known opposition leader Christian Malanga led a failed coup attempt in May that targeted President Felix Tshisekedi’s close ally and the presidential palace, killing six people. Shortly after the attack was live-streamed on social media, the Congolese army claimed that Malanga had been shot and killed for allegedly resisting arrest.
