Early in her match against Karolina Muchova, Raducanu of Britain was clearly upset and broke down in tears as she stood behind the umpire’s chair and a spectator was led away by security guards.

During Raducanu’s match, the person was seated in the front rows. The person was later ejected and barred from all WTA events while a threat assessment was conducted, according to the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA).

“Dubai Police arrested a tourist who approached Raducanu, left a note, took her picture, and acted in a way that upset her during the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships after she lodged a complaint,” the Dubai government said.

“The individual signed a formal undertaking to maintain distance from her and has been banned from future tournaments, even though Raducanu ultimately decided to drop the charges.”

Whether the person had been released was not disclosed by the government.

Despite losing the match 7-6(6) 6-4, former U.S. Open champion Raducanu later expressed pride in her response to the “difficult experience.”
