Hema Malini and Esha Deol were spotted by the media on Monday afternoon outside a crematorium. This came two weeks after they brought Hema’s husband Dharmendra back home from hospital, where he was admitted due to ill health.

•Dharmendra, 89, was recently discharged from Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital last week and has been recuperating at home.

•“Dharmendra was discharged at 7.30 am today. His family is taking care of him at their residence. Pray that his treatment and recovery continue smoothly,” said Dr Pratit Samdani. Several film industry members, including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan, visited to check on him during this time.

•A day after his discharge, Sunny Deol was seen losing his temper at photographers stationed outside their home. Visibly emotional, he told them, “Aap logon ko sharam aani chahiye… Aapke ghar mein maa-baap hain, bachche hain…”, folding his hands in frustration.

•In a career spanning over six decades, Dharmendra has given several memorable performances in films like Ayee Milan Ki Bela, Phool Aur Patthar, Aaye Din Bahar Ke, Seeta Aur Geeta, Raja Jani, Jugnu, Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Dost, Sholay, Pratiggya, Charas, Dharam Veer, among others.

•The actor will be seen in the war drama ‘Ikkis’ starring Agastya Nanda. After the demise of legendary Bollywood actor Dharmendra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his tribute. Calling him a phenomenal actor, Modi wrote that his death marked the end of an era of Indian cinema.

“The passing of Dharmendra Ji marks the end of an era in Indian cinema. He was an iconic film personality, a phenomenal actor who brought charm and depth to every role he played. The manner in which he played diverse roles struck a chord with countless people. Dharmendra Ji was equally admired for his simplicity, humility and warmth. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with his family, friends and innumerable fans. Om Shanti,” PM Modi wrote on X.

In 2004, he contested and won the Lok Sabha seat from Bikaner, Rajasthan, on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket. Following his death, tributes have poured in from across the political spectrum

Dharmendra’s health had reportedly declined in recent weeks, with an ambulance spotted at his residence on the day of his passing, accompanied by heightened security. He was hospitalised in late October due to breathlessness and was placed on ventilator support briefly before being discharged to receive treatment at home.

His enduring spirit and resilience won him a special place in the hearts of millions. Family members, most notably his son Sunny Deol, requested media and admirers to respect their privacy during this difficult time.

Dharmendra’s cinematic journey spanned over six decades with more than 300 films to his credit. Born Dharmendra Singh Deol on December 8, 1935, in Nasrali village, Punjab, he defied humble beginnings to become one of Bollywood’s most versatile and beloved stars.

His early breakthrough came in the 1960 film Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere, and his rise to stardom was cemented with hits like Phool Aur Patthar (1966), where he showcased his rugged charm. His role as Veeru in the 1975 blockbuster Sholay remains iconic and etched in popular culture.

Known for his action roles and charismatic dialogue delivery, Dharmendra won multiple Filmfare nominations and the prestigious Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997. He also ventured into production, backing successful films that launched his son Sunny Deol’s career. Awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2012, Dharmendra’s legacy is both artistic and inspirational.
