Los Angeles defeated by Detroit. In overtime,
David Montgomery’s 1-yard touchdown run helped the Detroit Lions defeat the Los Angeles Rams at home on Sunday night. Jahmyr Gibbs, Montgomery’s backfield partner, finished with 40 yards and a touchdown. Montgomery added 91 yards to his total.
The Rams fall to 0-1 while the Lions advance to 1-0.
Gibbs’ rush, a 52-yard touchdown reception by receiver Jameson Williams, and two field goals by rookie kicker Jake Bates—who was making his NFL debut—gave Detroit a significant lead for the majority of the game. With 17 seconds remaining, Bates fired a game-winning 32-yard field goal to send his team into overtime.
Jared Goff, the quarterback for the Lions, completed the game 18 of 28 passes for 217 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Even though Williams had a huge night, Amon-Ra St. Brown, the team’s top receiver, had three receptions for just 13 yards.
