Cristiano Ronaldo becomes first individual to hit one billion followers across all social media platforms

One billion followers on social media for Cristiano RonaldoCristiano Ronaldo is the first person to reach the astounding milestone of one billion followers across all of his social media platforms.

The figure is derived from the sum of his followers on Weibo, Kuaishou, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and other Chinese social media platforms.

One billion followers does not equal one billion unique followers because many of them will follow him on several different platforms and some of them will be automated accounts, or bots.

However, Paolo Pescatore, a social media specialist at PP Foresight, called it a “staggering number” that would grab the attention of brands and the media.

“What a feat, and it emphasizes even more the fundamental change in the media.”

He told the BBC that it demonstrated “the power to reach new, younger audiences thanks to technology.”

Ronaldo was well-known on the field for his rivalry with Lionel Messi, the rising star from Argentina.

However, since Messi only has 623 million followers on social media, there is no rivalry for the title of winner.

Beyond just athletics, Ronaldo has surpassed some of the biggest names in entertainment, such as singers Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, and Justin Bieber.

Not even the most well-known artists from the internet can match up—the world’s most popular YouTuber, MrBeast, has 543 million subscribers overall.
