The body of the unidentified 23-year-old man was discovered Monday at the base of a cliff in the Portes du Soleil region, close to the town of Morzine, where the Avoriaz ski resort is situated.

Xavier Goux-Thiercelin, the local prosecutor, confirmed the death on Friday.

The circumstances surrounding the skier’s death are being investigated by the Montriond and Avoriaz police forces.

On the evening of Sunday, February 16, the victim is thought to have died after unintentionally falling off the cliff, according to the local newspaper Le Dauphine Libere.

“We are in contact with the local authorities and are providing support to the family of a British man who passed away in France,” a Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office spokesperson stated.
