Brighton staged a remarkable comeback to come back from two goals down to beat Tottenham in a Premier League thriller on the south coast.
Spurs looked set to go for a sixth straight win in all competitions after taking a 2-0 lead in the 37th minute.
Brennan Johnson opened the scoring with his sixth goal in six games when he timed Dominic Solanke’s through ball before beating Bart Verbruggen.
The home keeper should have done better with a curling shot from James Maddison, who managed a low two-handed shot into the goal but was unable to stop the ball going wide as Spurs doubled their lead.
But Brighton were a transformed team after the break. The Seagulls reduced the deficit early in the second half when Destiny Udogie failed to clear Kaoru Mitoma’s cross and Yankuba Minteh took the opportunity to score his first goal for the Seagulls since his £30million move from Newcastle.
The impressive Mitoma was again involved in the home equalizer in the 58th minute, passing to Rutter, who made a twisting move to create space away from Micky van de Ven and then shot to the ground to deceive Guglielmo Vicar.
Then Rutter did a great job not to give up, bursting close to the touchline to deliver a cross which Danny Welbeck converted with a header to score what turned out to be the winner.
