A Belgian tourist has died while he was on a beach on the Italian island of Sardinia. Hundreds of other tourists were on the beach at the time that the 81-year-old Belgian passed away. The Italian press agency Ansa reports that the man became unwell while swimming. Attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

Italian media report that the tragic incident took place yesterday (Monday) at around 1pm on the busy La Caletta beach in Siniscola.
Witnesses report that the man was swimming near to the shore, when some other tourists noticed that he was unconscious. They alerted the emergency services.
The man was brought ashore where paramedics attempted to resuscitate him. However, he was already dead.
