Bahrain has signed a major aviation agreement with US aerospace giants Boeing. and GE as part of a broader $17 billion investment Package unveiled during Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa’s official visit to the United States.
At a ceremony in Washington, Bahrain’s national carrier Gulf Air signed a deal to purchase 18 new Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, the official Bahrain News Agency reported. A separate memorandum of understanding was also signed for the supply of 36 aircraft engines from GE Aerospace, the agency added.
The signing was attended by Bahrain’s Minister of Finance and National Economy, Sheikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, who also chairs the board of Mumtalakat, Bahrain’s sovereign wealth fund, and US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick.
Sheikh Salman hailed the agreement as part of a $17 billion package of deals and cooperation announcements between the US and Bahraini private sectors, spanning multiple industries. He said the package would boost economic growth and deepen commercial ties between the two longtime allies.
He also underscored the importance of building on the Bahrain–US strategic partnership, which spans over 130 years, and reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to advancing economic and trade cooperation in line with the visions of King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Sheikh Salman highlighted the role of the US-Bahrain Free Trade Agreement and the American Trade Zone in Bahrain in expanding opportunities and strengthening bilateral economic ties.
