Artem Chigvintsev, a former star of Strictly Come Dancing, was detained in California on suspicion of domestic abuse.

Online jail records show that the professional dancer, who won the BBC competition in 2010 with famous partner Kara Tointon, was scheduled to appear in Napa County Jail on Thursday morning.

The reason behind Chigvintsev’s arrest is unclear; he posted a $25,000 (£19,000) bond.

After being paired with former EastEnders actress Tointon during series eight in 2010, the Russian dancer joined Strictly, and their relationship developed into a long-lasting real-life romance.

Alongside actress Holly Valance, the 42-year-old reached the show is semi-finals in 2011 before joining TV veteran Fern Britton for the 2012 season.

In 2013, he was paired with Natalie Gumede, a star of Coronation Street, and they finished in second place.

Later, Chigvintsev transferred to the US version of Strictly, Dancing With The Stars, where he was paired in 2017 with WWE star Nikki Bella, who would later become his future wife.

The couple’s son was born in 2020, a few hours before Brie Bella, Nikki’s twin sister, made her second child’s arrival public.

For five years, the siblings were the faces of the E! reality series Total Bellas. Prior to getting married in 2022, Nikki Bella and Chigvintsev claimed to have only known they were pregnant for 2.5 weeks after getting engaged in Paris.

Only a few days have passed since his wife and he celebrated their two-year wedding anniversary.
