Armed gangs have stormed the main prison in Haiti’s capital Port-au-Prince, releasing many inmates. One local journalist told BBC News that the great majority of the approximately 4,000 men detained there have now escaped. Gang members accused of being involved in President Jovenel Moïse’s 2021 assassination were among those in custody.
