Former Chinese Football Association Vice President Sentenced to 11 Years for Bribery

Li Yuyi, the former vice president of the Chinese Football Association, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for accepting gifts and bribes. The sentencing is part of a broader investigation into approximately a dozen football referees and officials across China.

According to state news agency Xinhua, Li was found guilty of misusing his position at the Chinese Football Association and the Chinese Football Association Super League Company from 2004 to 2021. The court also imposed a fine of 1 million yuan ($139,579.03) on Li. The probe revealed that Li had received money and valuables worth over $1.69 million in exchange for favors.

In addition to his prison sentence, Li’s illicit gains will be seized and handed over to the state treasury.
