The investigation was first confirmed last month by the Metropolitan Police, whose elite S014 Royal Protection Group was accused of being asked to dig up dirt on Virginia Giuffre, who claimed that she was trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein and sexually assaulted by Andrew when she was just a teenager.
Now, The Sun reports that a hunt is underway for any emails, phone records, and notebooks from Andrew’s personal protection officers (PPO). Moreover, at least two of Andrew’s former bodyguards have been questioned so far about the claims.
On October 18, the Mail on Sunday unearthed an email from King Charles III’s younger brother where he seemingly ordered his PPO to “investigate” Giuffre, who tragically passed away earlier this year.
“It would also seem [Giuffre] has a criminal record in the [United] States,” the email reads, further revealing her date of birth and social security number to be used “for investigation.” However, it is not known whether the bodyguards followed through with Andrew’s request.
A few hours later, the Met announced that it will conduct an investigation into the claims. It came just two days after Andrew, previously the Duke of York, was stripped of his royal titles amid renewed scrutiny of his ties to the late convicted paedophile.
However, in his statement announcing the relinquishment of his titles and honours, Andrew continued to deny Giuffre’s allegations.
While the Metropolitan Police conducts its investigation in the U.K., Andrew has been summoned to the U.S. to give his statement for the ongoing Epstein investigation by the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.
In a letter addressed to Andrew’s Royal Lodge residence earlier this month, members of the US Congress demanded an interview about his “long-standing friendship” with Epstein.
“In the interest of justice for the victims of Jeffrey Epstein, we request that you cooperate with the Committee’s investigation by sitting for a transcribed interview,” the letter read.
