“An appeal is pending regarding the car used in the Edenderry double murder.” .

A car that is thought to have been used by the perpetrators of the arson attack in County Offaly has been the subject of an appeal from the Gardaí investigating the deaths of a young boy and his grand-aunt..

Four-year-old Tadhg Farrell and 60-year-old Mary Hoult died at a house in Castleview Park in Edenderry when a suspected petrol bomb was thrown through the front window of the house on 6 December.

Tadhg’s grandmother was also in the house at the time of the attack and is continuing to receive treatment in hospital for serious burn injuries.

Gardaí have said that following the attack, two men left the scene in a Black Kia Rio with a car registration 08-D-24363.

The car was found burnt out at Tipper East in Naas, Co Kildare the day after the attack.

As part of their murder investigation, gardaí have appealed for information in relation to the car They have appealed to anyone who had access to the car between 7 October last and 7 December to come forward.

They are also looking to speak to anyone with knowledge of the whereabouts or activities of the car from 1 to 7 December.

Gardaí would like to see CCTV footage or images of the car in Kildare, Laois, Offaly or surrounding areas from 1 to 7 December.

The investigation team is satisfied that previous registered owners of the vehicle are not involved in any way with the attack.
