After Jordan’s parliamentary election, which was marked by low turnout and significant gains by the Islamist opposition, Hassan is tasked with forming a government.

Prior to taking a position as chief of staff for King Abdullah II, Hassan, 56, was the minister of planning.

He takes over for the departing prime minister, Bisher Khasawneh, who led the administration since October 2020.

King Abdullah has appointed Jafar Hassan as Jordan’s new prime minister.
King Abdullah II appointed Jafar Hassan as the head of the new Jordanian government and urged him to organize support for the Palestinians.    In Jordan, Islamist parties gained ground in the most recent election.
