A 29-year-old male was shot in the abdomen just after 2 a.m. in front of a restaurant at 156 W. 38th Street in Midtown Manhattan, the NYPD confirmed to ABC News. The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital in New York, the NYPD said, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.
We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time,” the Jets said in a statement.
One of Boyd’s college friends from his time at Texas, Ernest Quander, said the player was recovering well.
“He’s all good right now. He’s in good condition. He’s doing real good,” Quander told the New York Post on Sunday.
The Post reported that Boyd was shot after a dispute outside a restaurant turned violent. Police said they are looking for a man they believe to be the shooter who fled the scene in a BMW X8 SUV.
Boyd, a cornerback who plays mainly on special teams, was a seventh-round selection by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2019 draft after his college career at Texas. He also played for the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals before joining the Jets in March. He has not played so far this season due to a shoulder injury.
Ernest Quander, who grew close to Boyd during the cornerback’s time at the University of Texas, added: ‘He’s a soldier, through tough times… he’s fine. He’s fine.’
Update On Jets Cornerback Kris Boyd’s Condition After Shooting
A close friend of New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd said he’s in “good condition” after being shot twice in New York City early Sunday (November 16) morning.
“He’s all good right now. He’s in good condition. He’s doing real good,” said Ernest Quander, who has been Boyd’s friend since his collegiate career at the University of Texas, via the New York Post.
“He’s a soldier, through tough times” Quander added. “He’s fine. He’s fine.”
Boyd, 29, was reported to be in critical, but stable condition after the shooting on West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue in Midtown Manhattan just after 2:00 a.m. The Jets confirmed that Boyd was the victim identified in the shooting.
“We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time,” a representative said.
Boyd was reportedly shot in the abdomen outside Sei Less restaurant following a dispute that escalated when the gunmen fired two shots, law enforcement sources confirmed to the New York Post. The suspect fled the scene in a BMW X8 SUV and witnesses were described as being uncooperative with police officers at the scene.
A second vehicle, a silver Mercedes-Benz Maybach, was also reported to have fled the scene after shots were fired. Photos from the scene also showed a luxury armored Rhino GX SUV reported to be worth up to $300,000 parked outside the restaurant after officers arrived.
Boyd was reported to have been in and out of consciousness prior to being rushed to the hospital, where he was said to be in critical, but stable condition. No arrests have been made in relation to the shooting and an investigation is ongoing.
Boyd signed a one-year contract with the Jets this past offseason and was placed on injured reserve on August 18. The former University of Texas standout was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the seventh-round of the 2019 NFL Draft and spent his first four NFL seasons with the franchise before stints with the Arizona Cardinals (2023) and Houston Texans (2023-2024).
