The spokesperson for the US department of state, Matthew Miller, is now speaking on the aid convoy incident from Washington.
He says from the aerial footage it is clear the situation is “desperate” and “that tells you we need to do more to get humanitarian assistance in”.
Mr Miller also says “too many Palestinians died today”.
“The acceptable number of innocent Palestinians dying is zero,” he says.
The US official goes on to say Washington is “seeking information” on the incident.
“Whenever you have military operating in the area you have a risk of misunderstanding and a risk of miscalculation – that is an ongoing risk,” he says.
“But the risk is increased because of how desperate people are.”
Mr Miller says the US is “trying hard” to establish a temporary ceasefire.
“It is urgent this agreement is reached,” he adds.
He also says the US understands that Israel is conducting an investigation of the incident, adding that Washington will be pushing for answers and continues to make clear to Israel that all possible measures must be taken to allow the entry of more assistance into Gaza.
