A former senior government minister in South Africa has left the governing African National Congress (ANC), with a blistering attack on the party.

Nathi Nhleko claimed the ANC was bringing in austerity measures and dismantling state-owned businesses, calling it “painful” to watch the party become something he no longer recognized. Mr. Nhleko had was close to the disgraced former president Jacob Zuma.
