A deadly amount of the highly addictive and prohibited drug was found in a stock of candies given to a food bank.
A New Zealand charity was forced to issue an urgent warning on Wednesday regarding food packages it had been distributing, claiming that it had inadvertently included candies containing a potentially fatal amount of methamphetamine, or “meth.”
Auckland City Mission, which works with homeless people, said the sweets were donated anonymously by a member of the public.
A food bank client reported “funny-tasting” candy, alerting the charity.
