A 13-year-old schoolgirl is fighting for her life after allegedly being stabbed in the neck, according to local media.
Six teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, Humberside Police said.
The young victim was found at the side of the A63 dual carriageway in Hessle near Hull at about 6.50am on Friday.
She suffered “lacerations” to her neck, chest and abdomen and is in a critical condition following the roadside attack.
Four boys aged 14, 15, 16 and 17, and two girls aged 14 and 15 were detained soon after in a wooded area nearby.
All remain in police custody as cordons are in place in the area where officers scouring for clues.
Detective Superintendent Simon Vickers said he believed the attackers knew the victim, adding: “I understand this incident will rightly cause concerns amongst the community and I would like to offer my assurances that as a part of our initial investigation we have six individuals in custody who are all being questioned by detectives.
“At this time, we do believe the attackers knew the victim and inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances around the incident.
“The girl remains in hospital in critical condition and her family are being supported by officers at this difficult time.”
Searches also took place in an area near the Hull Humber View Hotel in North Ferriby and wooded area off Ferriby High Road.
