Apple announced on Monday what it calls its largest-ever investment commitment. Apple says it will invest 500 billion dollars in the United States over the next four years. This comes after President Donald Trump imposed additional tariffs on China — Apple’s main production base.
Under the plan, the IT giant will construct with partners a plant in the southern state of Texas. The plant will produce servers that support Apple’s generative artificial intelligence.
The firm will also set up a base in the Midwest state of Michigan. The aim is to train next-generation US manufacturers and advance its development of semiconductors.
Apple will create about 20,000 jobs through its investments in fields such as R&D and silicon engineering.
CEO Tim Cook released a comment saying, “We’re thrilled to expand our support for American manufacturing.”
Trump has welcomed the move. He wrote in a social media post on Monday that the reason for the investment is “faith in what we are doing, without which, they wouldn’t be investing ten cents.”
