South Korean court rejects petition challenging Yoon’s detention | NHK

A South Korean court has dismissed a petition challenging the detention of impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol by a joint team of investigative authorities.

Thursday’s decision by the Seoul Central District Court came after Yoon’s lawyers, who say the detention is illegal, filed the petition seeking a review of its legality on Wednesday.

Yoon was detained by the joint investigation team on Wednesday on suspicion of insurrection in relation to his short-lived declaration of martial law last month.

Yoon refused to make statements during questioning by investigators before being moved to a detention center just outside Seoul. He continued to reject questioning on Thursday, saying he had already fully explained his position.

South Korean media say the investigation team is expected to apply for a court warrant on Friday to arrest Yoon for further investigation.
