Takaichi said she hopes to meet Trump as soon as possible and imagines a visit early next year. She spoke in a speech in Tokyo on Thursday. As for relations with China, she said concerns and challenges inevitably arise between neighboring countries. She said Tokyo and Beijing maintain communications on all levels, and that her government will respond to China from the standpoint of protecting Japan’s national interests, honor and people’s lives. On economic and fiscal policies, Takaichi said Japan needs to bolster national power now through proactive fiscal measures, and to not weaken the country by cutting spending excessively. She said the draft budget for next fiscal year focuses on key policies to win trust from financial markets.
