Saudi diplomat referred to prosecutors over alleged groping in Tokyo | NHK WORLD-JAPAN News”

Tokyo police on Friday sent papers to prosecutors on a Saudi Arabian diplomat for allegedly touching a woman’s breasts at a Tokyo nightclub in July.

The man in his 30s was working at the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Tokyo.

He is suspected of groping the female guest in her 20s at the nightclub in Minato Ward, in violation of Tokyo’s nuisance prevention ordinance.

During questioning on a voluntary basis at a police station, he denied the allegation, saying he only touched the woman’s arms. The two reportedly did not know each other.

As a diplomat, he was immune to arrest in Japan.

Investigative sources say the man returned to his country in November after refusing police requests that he appear for further questioning.

In a similar case involving a diplomat in Tokyo, a counselor at the Embassy of Singapore was questioned by police in February after allegedly taking images of a naked boy secretly at a public bath in Tokyo.

He returned to Singapore in April, refusing more questioning. But he later came back to Japan to respond to requests by police, and was referred to prosecutors.
