US sports channel ESPN says the Department of Homeland Security and tax authorities are jointly investigating Mizuhara Ippei, the former interpreter for Major League Baseball star Ohtani Shohei.
Mizuhara was dismissed by the Los Angeles Dodgers last week following allegations he was involved in illegal gambling.
US media had reported that about 4.5 million dollars was transferred from Ohtani’s bank account to an alleged illegal bookmaker. Ohtani has said Mizuhara accessed his account and wired the money to the bookmaker without his permission.
