French President Emmanuel Macron has called for an end to arms shipments to Israel for Gaza, drawing sharp criticism from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Macron told France Inter radio that “the priority is to return to a political solution, to stop the delivery of weapons to fight in Gaza.”
At a summit in Paris on Saturday, the French president reiterated his concern that the conflict in Gaza continues despite calls for a ceasefire, and also criticized Israel’s decision to send troops on the ground in Lebanon.
Netanyahu responded: “Shame on them,” referring to Macron and other Western leaders who have called for what he described as an arms embargo against Israel.
