Liverpool continued their impressive start to the season by securing a sixth straight win in all competitions with victory at Crystal Palace, according to the BBC. But it came at a price: goalkeeper Alisson was injured.
The Premier League leaders took the three points thanks to Diogo Jota’s first-half goal, the Portuguese striker taking advantage of poor defending to head home Cody Gakpo’s cross.
But as they closed to three points, Alisson appeared to pick up a hamstring injury during a layoff and was replaced by Vitezslav Jaros for the final 10 minutes, with the Czech goalkeeper making his debut.
In the Premier League, Liverpool has only lost once thus far, while Crystal Palace has dropped their last four games.
Eddie Nketiah’s early goal was disallowed for offside, and right before the half, Ismaila Sarr forced Alisson into a fantastic save. Because Liverpool was unable to find a second goal, Palace, who had been well behind for extended periods of time, still had a chance to make a comeback.
Alisson was called on twice in the second half to make saves, first clearing Nketiah’s shot after the visitors were caught in possession and then pushing Eberechi Eze.
While the goal difference was a blow for Liverpool, Palace were unable to really test Jaros before the final whistle, with Eze firing past the keeper after a good break.
The win moved Liverpool four points clear at the top of the table before kick-off at 3pm. Meanwhile, Palace remain in the top three with three points from seven games
