Mexican soldiers opened fire on a group of 33 migrants, killing six, the Defense Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
The migrants were in a truck trying to escape a military patrol on Tuesday night. The ministry reaffirmed its “commitment to act in strict accordance with the rule of law, within the framework of a policy of zero impunity, and is ready to help the civil authorities to shed light on the facts.”

Ten other people were also injured in this incident. The ministry said the migrants came from Egypt, Nepal, Cuba, India and Pakistan.
The nationality of the deceased was not specified, but the ministry said it would contact the relevant embassies.
The UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Mexico expressed concern about the incident, adding that “migrants are exposed to great risks during their journey, and that is why it is essential that they have the legal means of access , movement and integration to avoid tragedies like these”.
The incident happened near the city of Huixtla in the southern state of Chiapas, near the border with Guatemala. This is a route often followed by migrants, who are often smuggled in overcrowded vehicles.
