John Ashton, Taggart in ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ films, dies at 76
Ashton “passed away peacefully” in Colorado on September 26, according to an obituary that an agent for the actor sent to USA TODAY. The obituary said, “John was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.”

Eddie Murphy and Ashton starred together as police officer John Taggart in the “Beverly Hills Cop” series, which began with the 1984 action-comedy. He reappeared in “Beverly Hills Cop II,” the sequel, and “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F,” the Netflix follow-up, this year.
