Brook Cheuvront went on a lone hike, and on Sunday, authorities discovered his body.
Authorities announced that they had found the body of an American woman who had disappeared while hiking on South Africa’s Table Mountain.
An NGO in Cape Town was employing a student from North Carolina named Brook Cheuvront as an intern.
The tracking app the 20-year-old student was using to go on a solo hike stopped updating, and she was reported missing on Saturday after no one could get in touch with her.
According to local media, police reported that her body was found on Sunday in Devil’s Peak, a mountainous backdrop area.
The group in charge of managing Table Mountain and other national parks, South African National Parks (SANParks), claims that the hiker departed her room at noon in order to climb the mountain.
Her friends called the police when they were unable to reach her on the phone and her tracking app was not updating.
After finishing the search swiftly, rangers and wilderness search-and-rescue teams decided to end it late on Saturday.
Her body was discovered on the mountainside with the help of a helicopter that joined the search the following day.
“SANParks stated in a statement that an investigation is still ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the hiker’s death.”
The cause of death will be determined by an autopsy, the police have stated.
Cheuvront’s death is still being investigated, according to SANParks.
