Indian opposition leader Kejriwal says will resign as Delhi chief minister

A day after being released from jail on bail in a corruption case that he claims is politically motivated, Arvind Kejriwal announces his resignation.

Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal speaks at a demonstration with other party leaders, asking the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to arrest them. This comes after Delhi police detained Bibhav Kumar, Kejriwal’s assistant, in relation to an assault case that AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal, a close BJP ally, filed.

A day after being released from jail on bail in connection with a corruption case, Indian opposition leader Arvind Kejriwal announced his resignation as chief minister of the regional government of the nation’s capital, New Delhi.

“I have come to ask the public today: Do you think that Kejriwal is a criminal or an honest person? Two days from now, I am going to step down as chief minister and ask people if I am honest,” he declared on Sunday.
