Three South Korean skiers were killed in a collision on a New Zealand highway, local police and South Korean officials said on Thursday.
District Police Inspector Viki Walker reported that a van and a four-wheel drive vehicle collided at an intersection close to Geraldine, New Zealand’s South Island.
Prior to the collision, the two cars were moving in opposing directions.
Three of the van’s occupants perished in the collision, and one more passenger was seriously hurt.
Serious injuries were also sustained by the four-wheel drive driver.
Walker said that both survivors were transported by air to Christchurch Hospital.
Situated approximately 84 miles (or 135 kilometers) northeast of Geraldine, Christchurch is the most populated city in the South Island. It is located east of the Southern Alps mountain range in New Zealand, which is well-known among foreign visitors for its ski slopes.
Authorities declared that they were investigating the crash’s cause.
Walker stated, “The investigation will concentrate on precisely how that occurred. The vehicles have collided.” “Losing so many lives at once is shocking and our hearts go out to those involved.”
