A woman was reportedly treated for facial injuries after allegedly being assaulted on the aircraft, while one man was arrested following the incident.

Aer Lingus flight EI738 departed Dublin at around 7.15pm on Friday destined for Palma De Mallorca Airport in Spain. However, about one hour into the flight, the cabin crew declared an emergency (squawk 7700) due to a couple fighting on board.

A Squawk 7700 alert code indicates an emergency onboard the aircraft and may be issued due to technical, environmental, or medical issues that results in an emergency situation.

The argument continued to escalate, forcing cabin crew to step in, in an effort to break up the argument.

Despite the best efforts of the crew, the couple, who are understood to be British, carried on fighting until an alleged physical assault took place.
