Speaking on Thursday during a surprise visit to Ukraine, Prince Harry urged both Trump and Vladimir Putin to end the war.

When asked in the Oval Office about the comments, Trump said: “I know one thing, Prince Harry is not speaking for the UK, that’s for sure, I think I speak for the UK more than Prince Harry, but I appreciate his advice.”

The Duke of Sussex was invited to deliver the keynote speech at the Kyiv Security Forum, which is taking place despite ongoing Russian attacks on Ukraine.The prince did not mention Donald Trump by name, but he said he had a message for the “American leadership”.

Harry said the US – his adopted country – has a “singular role” in this conflict because, when Ukraine agreed to give up its nuclear weapons, America had pledged to protect Ukraine’s borders and its sovereignty.

He told the Trump administration: “This is a moment for American leadership – a moment for America to show that it can honour its international treaty obligations – not out of charity, but out of its enduring role in global security and strategic stability.”

Trump was also speaking ahead of the King’s state visit to the United States next week.

Charles and Camilla arrive in the US on Monday for a four-day visit during which they will meet Trump.

They will also be guests of honour at a White House banquet, and Charles has been invited to address a joint meeting of the US Congress.

Donald Trump has claimed he “speaks for the UK more than Prince Harry” after the Duke urged the US president to do more to end the war in Ukraine.

King to charm Trump in US state visit to smooth UK-US relations
Their visit coincides with the US’s 250th birthday, with events planned throughout the year.

This is the first time a British monarch has visited the US since Queen Elizabeth in 2007.

The King and Queen will be welcomed to Washington DC on April 27, with a private tea at the White House hosted by the President and First Lady.

There will also be a formal ceremonial military review the next day in the White House grounds, plus a bilateral meeting between King Charles and President Trump.

Following the speech to senators and representatives in Congress, the King and Queen will attend a state dinner at the White House with speeches from both principals.
