Trump gives ‘shoot and kill’ order for Strait of Hormuz
Donald Trump has said he has ordered the US Navy to “shoot and kill” any boat mining the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement on his Truth Social network, the US president claimed that his “mine sweepers” were “clearing the strait right now”.

There are fears that Iran has mined the crucial waterway, although this has not been confirmed.

If it has done so, it would threaten to stop traffic through the strait – which in peacetime is responsible for a fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas – in the long-term, further damaging the global economy.
