German airline Lufthansa Group says it will cut 20,000 flights through October, citing high fuel costs due to the Iran conflict.
The group said on Tuesday that the number of unprofitable short-haul flights will be reduced. It pointed out that the price of jet fuel has doubled since the outbreak of the conflict.
The group said it will cancel 120 flights daily from April 20 through the end of May on routes including those from Frankfurt to some cities in Poland and Norway.
It also said it is revising its medium-term operation for the coming months and will announce the new plan in late April or early May.
Lufthansa said it will be able to save about 40,000 tons of fuel by cutting 20,000 flights.
Scandinavia’s SAS earlier said it is canceling around 1,000 flights in April, citing a sharp rise in fuel prices.
