Newly released footage from yesterday shows US Marines abseiling from a helicopter as they seized control of the Touska, an Iranian-flagged cargo ship.
Donald Trump said last night that US Marines intercepted and took “full custody” of the ship in the Gulf of Oman after it tried to get past the US blockade in place around Iranian ports.
The footage, released by US Central Command, shows the Marines departing by helicopter from the USS Tripoli, an amphibious assault ship.
The Touska’s propulsion system had been disabled earlier after the USS Spruance opened fire on the ship’s engine room with its Mark 45 gun.
US forces say they issued “multiple warnings” to the ship over a six-hour period.
