Trump: US team heading to Pakistan for talks with Iran

US President Donald Trump says his delegates are traveling to Pakistan for negotiations with Iran. The question is whether the second round of in-person talks between Washington and Tehran will materialize.

Trump revealed in a social media post on Sunday that his representatives will be in Islamabad “tomorrow evening.”

The White House told NHK that Vice President JD Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner will attend the negotiations.

Trump also commented in the post that “Iran decided to fire bullets yesterday in the Strait of Hormuz — A Total Violation of our Ceasefire Agreement!”

He argued that the US is “offering a very fair and reasonable” deal and he hopes Iran will take it. He warned that if Iran does not, his country “is going to knock out every single Power Plant, and every single Bridge, in Iran. The Tasnim News Agency reported on Sunday that Iran had still not decided to send a negotiating team to Pakistan. The agency has ties to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Tasnim reported that as long as Trump’s declaration regarding the maritime blockade of Iran exists, no negotiations will happen.

It also disclosed that Iran and the US have continued to exchange messages through Pakistani mediation after the first round of face-to-face negotiations.

However, Tasnim said the exchanges have been similar to what unfolded during the first round of talks. It added that the negotiations wound up fruitless due to Washington’s excessive demands and ambitions.
