A third US aircraft carrier is heading to the Middle East, according to sources familiar with the matter, as Washington maintains a heightened military presence in the region.
The USS George H.W. Bush is expected to replace one of the two carriers already deployed, which have played a central role in ongoing US-Israel operations targeting Iran.
The USS Abraham Lincoln and the USS Gerald R. Ford have been operating at sea for months, supported by their carrier strike groups. The US military has also deployed thousands of additional Marines and sailors to the region in recent days.
