Strikes on Iran by the United States and Israel continued on Sunday, amid stepped-up military pressure by the US-

The US Central Command said on Saturday that the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli had arrived in the command’s area of responsibility.

The US Department of Defense also said elements from the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division will be deployed to the Middle East. The division serves as the Army’s rapid-response force.

The number of casualties from US and Israeli attacks is increasing in Iran.

Middle East satellite broadcaster Al Jazeera quoted Iran’s health ministry as saying that 2,076 people, including 216 children, have been killed and 26,500 injured.

Two days of talks on deescalating tensions in the Middle East will begin on Sunday in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is hosting his counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Saturday that he had held a telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
